Sandown Historics - Off at turn 1 ? Empty Sandown Historics - Off at turn 1 ?

The VHRR Organising Committee have decided to bring in a new ruling that if the weather conditions get hot then drivers will be given the option of not leaving the track at T1 after chequered flag but doing a full lap and exiting into pit lane. As this will cause considerable delay a minimum of two laps will be deducted from the race distance to compensate. Categories may choose to opt in or out of this system.

I am interested to hear from all MG and Invited British competitors. Which option would you prefer on a hot day, say 32 deg plus? Full race distance and off at T1 or 2 laps less and full cool down lap?

David, what will the minimum race distance be under these circumstances and if not supported, what will be race distances ??

IMHO opinion - if we are offered qualifying and 3 races, AND the memebrs support a full cool down, perhaps we are better asking for qualifying and 2 races, on the basis that entrants want laps rather than race starts.

However, the alternative view is that a minor mechanical gremlim with only 2 races has a bigger impact than with 3 races.

I am interested to hear peoples views - however, if the day is hot, I'll be happy enough to exit @ T1 and pull over in the car park, switch the ignition off, but leave my fan and electric water pump circulating coolant until temps drop, then return to the pits.

Natsoft tells me that last year we had an 8 lap saturday, a 6 lap and another 8 lap race sunday (Source: http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results.cgi?07/11/2010.SAND )
If it were hot on the sunday this would potentially drop us to a 4 lap and a 6 lap race...4 laps is not worth it in my opinion.

Robin's idea has merit of 2x longer races which will guarantee solid track time although as he says it will put a big emphasis on finishing those races due to only being two point scoring races, although potentially this would give us 2x 10-12 lap races? (maybe a Group A/C piststop style race is next up!) Reiterating Robin again if it is hot and you are running high temp we can pull over just through the exit gate and watch the next race while the car cools down.

I think we should just run our races as per program distance and come off at t1... Smile

Seems plausible. Owner onus may apply. If it's a dry track it's not like the V8's will be stretching their legs to break from the pack anyway.

I would be happy with that, 2 years ago at the event I was worried my MG TF would over heat.
