I did think about running my Elise there with the MGs but there is a lot of negative vibe out there so I guess I am not welcome..........One less car on the grid.
I will have to work even harder to get my MGB/F finished.

Don't take it personaly, its not the car. Its how the whole situation has been dealt with.

I agree, the more cars the merrier, the frustrations shared by myself and others are due to the lack of hard and fast rules and apparent double standards, nothing personal, just hard to see the line when it keeps moving

Get serious and think about what you are really doing

I do take it personally. It has nothing to do with process. Anybody can ask to be invited and the committee will make a decision. It may be positive or negative depending on who the person is and what car they are wanting to drive. The committee is not obliged to say yes. That's the whole idea of limiting it by Invitation

The majority of people who are new to MG Racing, and by that I mean those who have only been in it for a short time (such as a less than a decade), have no idea as to the amount of time and effort put in by people such as myself and many others in the period 1984-85 to get the thing up and running and to nurture it for over a quarter of a century. It is very easy to sit back in an anonymous forum and be critical without actually becoming involved in the continuing effort to ensure that MG Racing has a future. If our numbers drop then we do not get a grid.......simple stuff to understand. At this stage numbers have been healthy...........but.................believe me, if we lose just a few cars then it starts to become fragile..........

Some people are in fact driving some of our participants away with their constant carping and bickering but they just do not get it.

Invited British is by Invitation........the reason that I was invited (at my request) was that I have a very long history in MG Racing (in fact I initiated it right back at the beginning in 1984-5). I am one of a very small number of individuals who were there at the start and are still there supporting the category. I destroyed my MGF racing at Sandown and have partially completed a new car, my MGB/F. Like us all I am getting on in age and every year that passes without racing is a significant part of my life gone, so I guess given the circumstances it seems reasonable that the committee invited me to race as part of the happy group that is MG Racing. I could have walked away (and might yet do so if all this white-anting does not stop) and raced any number of my other cars but I prefer to be amongst friends supporting the grid. I gotta tell you my Ralt RT4 is beckoning and it is a whole lot quicker than the Elise having won the 1981 AGP, my other Lotus cars are slower but just as much fun in Historic events, so perhaps people should stop being negative about such things and start to put into the organisation to guarantee the future of MG Racing. Enjoy the cars you are racing, don't think about what somebody else is doing. It does not effect you when I drive the Elise. It just helps swell the grid by one and ensures we have a healthy number of cars to help the Promotors to not make a loss on the meeting.

Given the mood that was evident at Mallala amongst some competitors I have already made other arrangements to enjoy my Elise on Frid 24th at Winton for an Open Practice day amongst a group of like minded individuals. I may get down to the Island for a look on the Sunday but I have no intention of entering at this stage.......why would I? Look at it from a perspective other than your own.

Finally, nobody seems to have understood my point about anonymity.........identify yourself by putting your real name as your signature..........it will not hurt you for people to know who you really are. Otherwise your thoughts will not be given any value.

Jason,

It is Open Practice on Friday, every Friday (almost). The event on the weekend is th Vic Super Sprints and I am not entered in those as I prefer to race against a person rather than a clock. It starts at 10.00 am and each category (Bikes, open wheeler, closed cars) has 20 minutes free practice per hour thru to 5.00. The cost is $120 So you can get 7 sessions of 20 minutes being 140 minutes for $120. Great value and whilst you cannot race you can have a lot of fun amongst mates.

The AASA has many events in which your Rover Tomcat could compete (race). I guess it would be entered as Super TT or whatever category would take it. The AASA is always keen for entrants in sedans such as the Tomcat

Go to the Winton website and check out the calendar.

The very first Victorian MG race was in 1969 at Sandown. Not that we're a hosting a pissing contest or anything... (also off topic)

The process of which we speak is deeply flawed (hence the discussion). We cannot anymore hide behind the pretence of (to quote Julia Gillard) "moving forward", when the reality is of a boys club judiciary rooted in an old-school mentality. The fact that allegiances are being cited in the "decision making process" concerns me deeply; as it implies an open door policy with the committee for some racing members and not others.

I sincerely hope this is not the case...

As I have said all along, the opinion of an anonymous person who hides behind the electronic veil is worthless and should be ignored. Come on and "out" yourself if you want to be taken seriously. Better still, volunteer and nominate yourself for the committee whoever you are.

I do however agree totally that there was MG Racing before the current post '86 movement but anybody involved in that era (and I wasn't) would agree that it had died a natural death many years before 1986 due to lack of participants and unless we all get behind the new committee the current MG Racing could also die. As I keep on saying, get out there and enjoy your MG Racing. If enjoyment is not your objective and you put winning above the enjoyment, MG Racing is better off without you. Go and buy a FF and test yourself against like minded individuals driving spec cars and see how you fare rather than racing in a group of cars that are in a wide range of performance envelopes where one way an individual can fudge the results is by manipulating (or attempting to) the class structure to their advantage. There too many people involved who are thinking only of their own situation and what"s best for them rather than what is best for the continuing future of our category. It is often referred to as self-interest.

As stated above. Albiet less succinctly.

Somehow I doubt the title greenmgf76 amounts to anything akin to an enigma-like psuedonym. Unless the phrase "├Âuting myself" pertains to something less politically correct?

Now we've clarified THAT conundrum. From memory I did nominate... Did serve... Beat head against wall... Time I won't get back... etc...

Found the one-make MGF race at Mallala quite enjoyable for the record.

Whilst that may be true, it is a matter of principle that is at stake. Anonymity is hiding behind a wall. To use your political take, it is like the faceless individuals who ousted Rudd.....not prepared to stand up and be identified publicly even though it is known who they are.

How could you reveal my secret identity Batman??? I thought posting an ACTUAL pic of me would throw people off the trail! You know, "I know that's a picture of Trent, but then that's exactly what he'd like me to think."
