Re: Any news or gossip ?
Jay,
I keep trying to attach pictures but never succeed. What's the secret?
I can send them to someone...
Greg,
You've up to the big boys (engine capacity wise). Nice. The Midget is back on the track and running well. The oil pressure is a little low when hot but I went with what was recommended by the machine shop and ended up with about 2 1/2 thou clearances on the mains. That is the reason for the pressure. As long as I'm getting the volume through the bearings.
The only thing left from the original motor is the head and valves. EVERYTHING else has been replaced.
I went on the theory that the car had been raced for many years and on slicks. I was not going quite as quick as Geoff used to in her so everything must be ok in the design side. I don't know if the sump had been switched but a few experts have said they'd only run the old one I had on a standard motor. Great.
Anyway, new sump (and crank and centre main cap and...) and she seems ok. Did her run in at a private prac at Eastern Ck the oil change and another few sessions. Everything seems ok.
Hopefully, and if everything goes to plan, I'll have a run at May Sandown, FOS Winton then PI in October. I'll just keep the fingers crossed.
Steve

Nah, still 1380 dunno who's been telling you fibs! Just finishing off a freshen up that has taken 12 months (don't ask, a loooong story...maybe over a beer!) Just need to reassemble and refit the head, engine back in and get it run in etc. and we should be right for Sandown in May too.
What is your oil pressure and what oil are you running? 2.5 thou on the mains isn't too extreme, would rather see 2 thou. No wonder you had oil surge if you were running a standard sump! You probably already do this, but pull your oil filter apart at each oil change. You will soon see if anything is amiss with your bearings.
Cheers

Re: Any news or gossip ?
Greg,
I read earlier that "A little birdie tells me that a Bendigo-based pedaller has purchased peter Clark's v8 (RV8 based) roadster - complete with TRS Wildcat headed injected engine !!" and assumed that Bendigo based person was you. Damn, wrong again.
The oil pressure is fine when cold but at race temps (around 190 deg) it runs 1/2 needlle width under 60psi. When I back off and the revs drop the 50psi idiot light flashes at me. I change the filter with each oil change but don't cut it open.
The sump had the standard centre baffle with a pair of windage plates along the side. As I said, it was running quicker than I currently am so there must have been a change over at some stage or Geoff would have been consuming engines like beers.
I'm currently running Brad Penn 20/50 oil
I'm thinking of putting an oil thermostat on her to help a) get the temp up to start with and b) with a 16 row oil cooler I have trouble keeping it up (stop laughing) where I'd like it so it might save blanking off the oil cooler for different weather.
Otherwise Im ready to run.

I've put the photos from Winton 2013 on Photobucket. Now what do I need to do so you can view them?

On the picture (in photobucket) the top right is wheel, click that then go to Get Links.
Then copy the IMG code and paste on here.

Jay,
It's very long if I put in 157 IMG codes so here is one. Does it link to others? It's in an album called Winton MG Races 2013 and I don't know if a search for Griffinracing helps?
https://s1316.photobucket.com/user/griffinracing/media/Winton%20MG%20Races%202013/IMG_4705_zpsbc1694fd.jpg.html]
I'm working my way through the names. I hope I get them all right.

Hey, doesn't the Lone Rangers mask work the other way... you cover the eyes and nose?

Not this Bendigo based punter....out of my league read budget! I've sent you a PM about oil pressure...don't want to hijack this thread with matters technical! Great photos by the way!

Re: Any news or gossip ?
yah, it worked. Let me know if I got any names wrong and I'll fix them. Pass the word to the others (they don't seem to frequent the forum) that the pics are there and feel free to down load (if that's possible). Copyright prices are measured in beer .

Hey, at least I've sparked some interest in the forum
I started out with Jason Holmes somehow but obviously only half changed it. I'll fix it.
